    About the Authors

    Pati Montgomery is a national educational consultant specializing in principal and school leadership development. Previously, she was the executive director of literacy for the Colorado Department of Education, where she was responsible for the implementation of the READ Act. In 2015, Pati formed Schools Cubed, an educational consulting group that works with districts across the United States to create high-achieving school systems.
    A former teacher, principal, and district administrator, Pati has worked with principals across the United States on effective school practices. Her work is steeped in a background and a belief that all students can attain high achievement.
    Pati was the lead author of the book A Principal’s Primer for Raising Reading Achievement. That book and It’s Possible are both for principals and school leaders and highlight efficient systems and structures necessary for schoolwide improvement in literacy performance.

    Angela Hanlin is a dedicated and passionate leader for change in schools and classrooms. She is superintendent of the School District of Thorp in Wisconsin, where she works tirelessly to positively transform teacher practice and student achievement. She bases her career on the belief that all students can learn and perform at high levels when they are given highly engaging, research-based instruction and targeted, specific interventions. She creates a growth mindset among her students, staff, and community and uses character education to shape and sustain a positive culture of collaboration and growth that is focused on learning.
    Since 1996, Angie has served in the roles of classroom teacher, curriculum coordinator, instructional coach, and building principal of Matthews Elementary in the New Madrid County R-1 School District of Missouri. As professional development coordinator, she worked to train and coach teachers on research-based instructional practices and strategies. She has received numerous awards for her performance in the classroom and as a school leader and has found a new passion for working with building leaders to promote systems and structures to improve literacy for all students. The Matthews Elementary staff were able to dramatically transform their school and reach 100 percent proficiency.
    Angie received the 2019–2020 Outstanding Rural Administrator Award from the Missouri Association of Rural Educators (MARE). She is now on a journey of literacy improvement, systems and structure work, and school district transformation with the amazing staff, students, and community members at the School District of Thorp.

    Angie received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Southeast Missouri State University and a master’s degree in administration and an education specialist degree in educational leadership from William Woods University.
