Editorial Reviews

“A must-read…. Melissa and Lori have taken the five pillars identified by the National Reading Panel, opened them up, and made them accessible to teachers. They ignore the
noise and focus on winning for kids and the educators who serve them.”
— KAREEM WEAVER, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Fulcrum; NAACP Oakland's 2nd Vice President and Education Committee Chair

“Melissa and Lori are like the late-night hosts of the literacy world. Here, they consolidate the best of the learning we’ve come to count on them to provide. We thank them both for a book that is navigable, practical—and fun! What a resource. You’ll be keeping it at your elbow!”
— DAVID AND MEREDITH LIBEN, authors of Know Better, Do Better—Comprehension: Fueling the Reading Brain With Knowledge, Vocabulary, and Rich Language

“Literacy education has a deficit. It’s not, thankfully, one of knowledge, but of how to organize that knowledge. With its beautifully laid out chapters, podcast links, and practice frameworks, this book will stand the test of time as an indispensable solution. Educators looking for breadth and depth on the five pillars of reading need look no further.”
— LYN STONE, educational linguist, literacy coach, author, and Chief Executive Officer, Lifelong Literacy
